Why Physical SPF is the best sun protection solution for your sensitive skin.

Physical SPF, based out of minerals, provides a natural and non-toxic protection for sensitive and all skin types.

Intro

When it comes to sensitive skin, physical is far safer and effective than chemical. Sensitive skin is already reactive, whether hereditary, due to illness, or medications’, so applying foreign synthetic chemical ingredients our skin can’t recognized or assimilate can led to unpleasant outcomes and it’s best to keep it simple.

Chemical SPF - Mostly Cons?

Chemical SPF is applied to naked and vulnerable skin as it only works when absorbed into the skin. Sensitive skin can find this irritating and can cause inching, and or an allergic reaction. Chemical SPF needs 20 minutes to become active due to time it needs to surround the skin cells prior to UV radiation exposure. Physical does not.

Then, when UV rays hit the skin, they begin to break down the chemical SPF within the skin and the chemicals are absorbed by the body via the bloodstream. (As an AML Leukemia survivor, the active ingredient in chemical sunscreen is linked to leukemia! Needless to say, I now only use a physical Zinc or Titanium based sunscreen.)

When you re-apply a chemical SPF, the SPF factor is now only 50% effective than the last application, and every re-application is 50% less than the last. The reason is that the skin has been exposed to heat via radiation, and therefore you will need more frequent re-applications.

Physical SPF is mineral based sun protection - Mostly Pros!

Physical SPF, our hero, is very different, and it’s also applied differently.

Physical SPF is applied on skin that has been nourished and moisturized, so the skin has a blanket of comfort under the shield of the physical SPF. With advancements in cosmeceutical science, we now have “clear zinc”, so applying liberally won’t leave your skin looking like a vampire.

The UV rays will not absorb into your skin like they do with chemical SPF, the rays reflect off and be refracted from the skin.

In fact, another benefit to physical SPF is that Titanium keeps pollution out, and Zinc keeps skin cooler. This is good if brown spots, redness or pimples are something you’re trying to avoid. This is why a “physical” or organic SPF of Zinc and or Titanium Dioxide is the preferred type, every reapplication is the same protection as the first.

Mineral sunscreen comes from rocks of the Earth that are pulverized into micronized minerals and mixed into a spreadable base that’s good for your skin. When applied to the skin, they create a sun reflective shield that lays over your daily skincare to keep skin happy, hydrated and protected.

In Summary:

For all skin types, and most advisable sun protection for sensitive skin is Physical SPF. Due to its natural compounds taken from nature, sunscreen containing physical SPF provides excellent protection (with advances in formula that doesn’t leave a white residue)
